Your Perfect Composer?

Who would you want to score HDM?

I would say either Elliot Goldenthaal (Alien 3 has a fantastic score, very dark and grandiose) or the Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, whose score for Bram Stoker's Dracula is astonishing, he would give it a real epic darkness, and a great haunting quality.

Ennio Morricone :D...no, I love his work, but it wouldn't fit there.
Perhaps Craig Armstrong... :?:

Normally I would say Danny Elfman, as he is the best composer ever; but, for something as epic as HDM, I think Hans Zimmer. I loved the music from Pirates and the Da Vinci code.

Well, Immediate Music for the trailer, hands down. They're the best there is.

And then, I'll agree with F&F, Hans Zimmer is a good option.

Or perhaps Yokko Kano, she's a briliant composer able to swich genres like *that* (switching genres super fast)

I can't remember, was it Hans Zimmer who did the Gladiator ST?

I went and checked, yeah he did Gladiator :)

and he did that pretty much perfectly...

So yes, Hans Zimmer would be my fantasy composer.

Hanz zimmer is a great option! He's done Gladiator.. Pirates... Spirit.. Lion King... and multiple others! He's greta at capturing emotion in his scores and if there's another topic below this one where you can find more about him I'm sure.

I agree. Hans Zimmer has the dark mood down pat!

Sorry, guys, but I'm going to have to go with Howard Shore right here. My favorite composer (well, in terms of movie scores). He's already shown that he can do very, very epic scores with The Lord of the Rings.

I could also see HS doing music for TGC.

I think Clint Mansell would be a good choice...... I really like the sound of requiem for a dream hahaha

Someone from the following should compose the music (though it's already been composed, right?)
in no particular order: Harry Gregson-Williams (Chronicles of Narnia, Kingdom of Heaven), Hans Zimmer (Pirates), Klaus Bedelt (Pirates, Poseidon), John Williams (Star Wars, Harry Potter), Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump), Laurent Boutonnant (Jacquou le Croquant)

Howard Shore did a brilliant job with LOTR...but a lot of his previous scores were kind of...mediocre (imho)

Definitely Dario Marinelli. His score for V For Vendetta was a beautifully multi-layered score whose style would've worked wonders for The Golden Compass. Just listen to the track Eve Reborn on the V For Vendetta soundtrack. It's an amazing piece of music.

I'd be wild and consider people like Vangelis who composed and preformed for Chariots of fire and Blade runner or Jonny Greenwood who did There will be Blood/member of Radiohead

they're got an ear for music.

and wholly different from the composer they will use for future films =] so it would have been interested to hear what they would have come up with.

Gustav Holst. Planets Suite is the single best (and first!) concept album in the world.

I like Brad Fiedel, who did the Terminator sound Tracks. Minimal and effective. So much of the Orchestral music these days is completely cliche' I hate to say.

I like the composers who use an eclectic array of instruments. There are so many better ways to do music than the orchestral crap that gets layered on top of movie after movie after movie. They all sound the same. I used to enjoy buying the soundtracks to movies on CD. Now they are just compilations of bands which is getting just as cliche. No matter, there are still great composers out there. David Lynch's soundtracks are some of my favorites too.
