Coulter's Dæmon
I don't know if this has already been posted- I searched for it but I could only find posts about The Golden Monkey's name.
Anyway, why can Mrs Coulter's Dæmon go further away from than most normal (and by normal I mean not a witch or Lyra and Will) people's Dæmon? The golden monkey does it in the first book, Mrs C is talking to Lyra and the reporter, but the Golden monkey is in Lyra's bedroom searching for the alethiometer.
I though that maybe she might have gone through that area of land Serafina was talking about in TAS. The one that witches have to go through so that their Dæmon can go as far away from them as they like.
Any thoughts on this?

And she pushed him hard, so that he fell out of the machine.

Re: Coulter's Dæmon
It's only partly the reason why I started the politcal forum, I also genuinely want to know what people think about the topic.............then I realised that I could use the poll to my advantage and see how many other people want to kick the monkey. hahaha

I know why he doesn'tPullman has said that the Monkey doesn't have a name because every time he tried to think of one, the Monkey snarled at him and scared him
If there was any character that took on a life of its own, it was that damned monkey.
"We’ve got to study and think and work hard, all of us, in all our different worlds, and then we’ll build..."
"And then what?" said her Dæmon sleepily "build what?"
"The Republic of Heaven."

Re: Coulter's Dæmon
If that kind of monkey exists in real life I'd tie him up in a chair and hit him a baseball bat to death

Really? If that were the case, would it be possible for me to join in?

Re: Coulter's Dæmon
I like the Golden Monkey
And I think Ozymandias is a great name for him :O
"...And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!"
(Lord Byron)

Re: Coulter's Dæmon
I think the monkey's voice in the audio book is creepy. He only spoke once out of all three books. that was in the amber spyglass. Also, the golden monkey wasn't always bad. It got most of Lyra's hair out when Mrs. Coulter was trying to get the bomb stopped in the Amber Spyglass.
