Movie References: Dakota and Ragnar SPOILERS
Once upon a Time in the North mentions an important event in Dakota and Ragnar Lokisson an ancient Bear-king. I think these are hand waves to the movie. Dakota Blue is Lyra actress. Ragnar is the movie name for Iofur.

Seems so unjust - no camera, not even a photograph of her for him to have
But he'll never forget
Re: Movie References: Dakota and Ragnar SPOILERS
I thought about those things too.
It might be - why not?
I heard Chris Weitz in the commentary part of the TGC dvd saying that he thought/liked to think that the movie - and Sam Elliott as Lee Scoresby in particular - had inspired Pullman to write the story. I'm just glad he did write the story - I always wanted to hear more about Lee and Iorek
Although when I read the book, no matter how much I tried to get into my head that Lee was only 20 at that time, I still pictured Lee looking exactly like Sam Elliott in the movie... dammit!
