Forum Rules [PLEASE READ]

Postby Marijn » Sat Jul 10, 2004 12:03 pm

General Rules

1] No discriminating, bashing, attacking, flaming or swearing at any other members, no matter what level (Administrator, Moderator or other) the member is. You will get an warning via PM and/or email and you will be banned if it happens again.

2] Avoid spamming (This includes one word posts, posting only a smiley, posting non-related images), dIsToRtEd TeXt, kool [email protected], l33t speak and writing in CAPITALS ONLY.

3] Avoid suggestive posts. The site caters for people of all ages. Every thread should remain appropriate for everyone to access.

Do not open topics about anything illegal. Topics about illegal downloads and such will be deleted and will result in a warning.

4] Search the forum before opening a new topic. Duplicate topics will be removed without notice. You can use the search feature at the top of the forum index page to search.

Also, think about the forum where you open a topic and think about what you write. A topic will be moved without notice if a thread is opened in the wrong forum. Search through the forums before PMing moderators.

5] Do not revive an old topic without giving a reason. Old topics that are revived without giving a reason will be locked.

6] You may advertise your site through your signature and through your signature only. New topics started to advertise your site will be closed immediately, and the link to the site removed.

7] A moderator or administrator is always right when it comes to moderating. PM an administrator if you do not agree; do not start arguing on the boards.

8] If a topic subject does not relate to the topic's content in any way the admins/moderators have the right to rename your post.

9] Please only use the default colour in your post. This is to insure that your post remains readable for users with different layout colours.

10] It's a moderator's call to lock, move or rename threads. If it's clear that a topic should be locked (because it's a duplicate for example) then do not reply in that thread stating that such an action should be taken. Moderators will come across the topic and they will take the necessary steps.

If the mods miss it then you could PM one of them and point them to the thread.

11] If mod action is taken within a thread (ie splitting the thread, moving it to quarantine, renaming the topic) it is there to keep things on topic - please do not reply to a moderator action on a non-Quarantine forum.

Avatar Rules

1] Avatars may contain no profane, suggestive, offensive, copyrighted, illegal, or otherwise undesirable material of any kind.

2] Your avatar may not be larger than 120 x 120 pixels.

Signature Rules

1] Signatures may contain no profane, suggestive, offensive, copyrighted, illegal, or otherwise undesirable material of any kind.

2] You may link to your own website.

3] Signature images are not tolerated and will be removed without notice.

4] Your signature can not be larger than ten lines.

5] Do not use text larger than the default text.

These rules will be enforced from now on. The rules apply to the messageboard, chatroom, shoutbox and other interactive sections of His Dark Materials .org.

PM/email either Lord Asriel or L!NK if you have questions or remarks.

As of 4rd of June 2005 we've decided to add another rule:

ii] Do not write complete posts in a different colour than the default one. This is for two simple reasons:

- Mods use their mod colour when the they perform moderating actions. It's rather confusing when other users use the same colours as well.
- When we'll enable multiple theme for the board there'll be themes with all sorts of background colours. Some text colours read well on black, some read well on white. The default text colour will be adapted to the best suitable text colour automatically, user defined colour will not.

So in short, the use of the [color] tag is allowed, but do not overuse it.

Please watch this educational video and make sure that you get and remember the points given! It'll make all of our lives easier.
(I know it's a bit informal but the essence of it is very true and very well summarised)

Replace "Steam" by "Cittàgazze" while watching.

As of 22nd of January we've decided to add two more rules:
  • It's a moderator's call to lock, move or rename threads. If it's clear that a topic should be locked (because it's a duplicate for example) then do not reply in that thread stating that such an action should be taken. Moderators will come across the topic and they will take the necessary steps.
If the mods miss it then you could PM one of them and point them to the thread.
  • If mod action is taken within a thread (ie splitting the thread, moving it to quarantine, renaming the topic) it is there to keep things on topic - please do not reply to a moderator action on a non-Quarantine forum.
