I thought she was perfect. She couldn't have been more Lyra. I was really amazed at how spot on she was. I wanted to hug her lol.

I think you have all gone mad. I felt they completely diminished her character. Through out the whole story she is figuring things out on her own. That is what made her so specail. In the movie she was told everything by every character. There was nothing special about her in this film. Just some random girl who was fed information.
I did not even stay the whole movie. I left when I saw the horrible job they did with Iorek.
The whole story was destroyed and lost in the translation to film. Actually, I feel bad for Chris Weitz. He knew he was in over his head and should have stayed away completely Some books are just not meant to be adapted.

I think we all agree that Lyra is lots more complex in the novel, but there's enough of her personality that made it into the movie that she's still a special presence. Even this "diluted" version of Lyra has more personality than any of the leads of the three other major fantasy series-turned-motion-picture of this decade.

That's harsh. Dakota is a terrific talent and she does more with her scripted parts than any young actress in Hollywood.

I was not saying that the actress was terrible. I was just so saddened about the diminishing of the Lyra character. Dakota was fine. She did a great job acting in front of the blue screen. She showed some emotion, which is very hard to do. She blew Hayden Christensen out of the water. Although I did giggle at the part when she and Pan were running away from Mrs. Coulter and she barely gets out"what are we going to do pan?" I did have a good smile at that one. I couldn't say about the rest of the movie, I left when Iorek was introduced. Was to depressed to see any more.
I'm sorry, but am I the only one who thought that she was terrible?! She was unemotional, unbelievable, unattached, and totally inexperienced. I literally hated her portrayal of Lyra.
I feel bad, knowing somewhere she and her friends and family will read reviews like this, but COME ON. From the second she stepped on screen, I didn't believe a single damn thing she said.

I liked her, but I also think she was not perfect. I always thought Lyradidn't look so... nice and kind. You know. And she should be smaller than Roger!
My soul is shaped like an otter civet! Just check out those whiskers!
She was absolutely fantastic. She really couldn't have been any more Lyra. She had such magnetism. There were barely any awkward lines. From the previews I had been hopeful but far from sure that she'd be good, but wow!

I'm sorry, but first of all, she more than anyone else in the film was doing green/blue screen work ALOT. I can tell you from experience it is not easy. To catch a sparkle in someone's eye when they are not even acting with anyone else is ridiculously difficult from the other side of the camera as well.
Richards did what is called on of every actor. She was the character that Weitz had written. I'm not saying that she disregarded the character Pullman had written, but as an actor you have to sometimes separate what you know from what is written in the script in front of you. Naturally she had a lot of character research, but I think that we all can agree here that there were some differences in the character.
She held her own against Kidman, Craig, and Elliiot and worked with them beautifully. And I'm sorry, but film acting is hard. More than half of the time you are acting with a monotone script reader when they are doing two shots, close ups, etc.
Dakota Blue Richards, congrats. You were fabulous, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I thought she was astounding she really came to life on screen. Reading back over the books she is the one i picture as Lyra a perfect match. For someone who had never acted before she really was brilliant! I loved her Great Job!!!!!!!!!1

I couldn't have imagined a better actress for the part of Lyra. This girl is insanely cute and can act; she's entertaining to watch.
Compared to the kids in other fantasy series, she's a much stronger actress. She's more expressive, prettier, and can hold her own with stars Nicole and Daniel. She was very convincing, even in front of a CGI bear. She's much more nice looking then the Lyra in I imagined from the books, but I consider this a good thing.
My favorite scene is when she faces an army of Tartars. She spits and defiantly shouts "go on, then, go on!" Sassy!

Yes, well put Converse02. It was incredible all the moods she was able to express in her performance, despite how much of Lyra's character from the books was missing from the script. Her talent and endearing presence more than make up for any gaps in her character in the script! Weitz wrote in a lot of good scenes with her and she performed them all spotlessly -- bravo to her and bravo to the rest of the crew that worked with her so well. "But you don't do what you're told! You never let anyone else tell you what to do! ...hush Pan..."
Honestly, her performance was excellent. I think there was only one line delivery that she did not so great, but she was so believable. Her appearance was very believable, but what's more important is not so much that she looks like Lyra, but that she really is. She said herself she really just wanted to be Lyra, even before word of the movie, and with that kind of passion for the character, it's inevitable that it would be well done. I don't think she's at all deserving of such harsh criticism.
