HDM video games.
ITT:
I am a CS student aspiring to design video games. I thought about HDM and the possibilities of video games taking place in that universe.
If you could make video games that took place in HDM what would you make?
I would make an elaborate adventure game dealing with several issues relating to the end of the Amber Spyglass. Metatron might have been lost to the abyss but there are many loyal to him that are not eager to let go of their power. Allies of the Old Authority still linger the many worlds, organizing insurgencies and conspiracies to slow and stop the construction of the Republic of Heaven. In addition, Dust may have been saved but there remain many mysteries in the universe. Pullman related Dust to Dark Matter, which is a real theoretical particle. If Dark Matter is were a spider web holding the universe and everything in it together, then Dark Energy is a cosmic wind blowing and stretching the web apart. The bad news is that between this battle, Dark Energy is wining.
In the game you would simultaneously be trying to suppress the Old Authorities insurgents and find the cause of Dark Energy and how to stop it before all the Dust in the universe is split apart. They've already had a war with God, why not find a way to keep the universe from exploding ? :]

Re: HDM video games.
I personally would LOVE to see HDM, or at least The Golden Compass, given a whole hearted video game adaptation completely divorced from the New Line film franchise, and produced on the scale and quality of a Final Fantasy or similar RPG title rather than the game we got, which was ultimately nothing but film merchandise.
Unrelated, I think a third person shooter starring Lee Scorseby where you could take different delivery and transporation jobs and fly around in the balloon something similar to the sailboat in Zelda: The Wind Waker, but with more to do. It would cover a number of side stories and the last section of the game could even be his adventures in the HDM saga itself from Lee's perspective.

Re: HDM video games.
Personally I´d love to see these as a game (which HDM fan wouldn´t?). I´d think that the Wii holds great opportunities for that, too, but perhaps I´m not the best to make that choice (I´m a bit Wii-obsessed at the time, the reason being that I got one for christmas). But still, I can imagine few other video game consoles better for, say, using the Subtle Knife. =D
I can imagine HDM as a video game, though I don´t know whether I´d prefer it as a single game or as three seperate games. On one side, the capacity, and so the quality, of each game would be three times better if they were three games, but on the other side there´d be great opportunities of playing as characters across the story - like being able to play as Will at Jordan College (as an extra feature, of course, after you´ve completed the game/level) - if the three books were made into a single game.
Either way, I´d say that I´d buy any proper HDM video game. 'Proper' meaning, in this case, 'Not film merchandise'.

Re: HDM video games.
I have a Golden Compass DS game based off of the movie and I can say based off of expierience that the game needs to be accurate according to the book! Otherwise I would totally buy it
It would be even awesomer if the background music was the music from the movie
I think that a Wii game would definitly be awesome ^___^

Re: HDM video games.
how about, and im just spitballing here, LEGO HDM?
just think about it, all the characters that you could then add to it, kinda like they did with star wars, that was fun. failing that, something with a hint of Dragon Age or Oblivion. you know, the massively open world RPG's?

The LSW games, actually, was just what I had in mind when suggesting the option of playing as characters across the storyline. Doing that should be just about perfect! =D
Better yet, that´d require Lego to make a line of HDM sets.

ZOMG, can you imagine playing with a little LEGO iorek, juts big enough to get a lyra on?, and then they could have a Jordan college similar to the hogwarts castle XD, this my friends could be more than just a video game, it could go physical, although im guessing the physical
would be a very niche market

Re: HDM video games.
That actually sounds like a good idea haha
I was looking to see if they ever came out with HDM Lego, but they haven't. I have lego star wars so I know how much fun it is
I would say a deffinite yes to that idea
Re: HDM video games.
Imagine having a little jaw you can put on or pull off Iofur's figure. And a whole lego arena for the bear fight, or models of the Gyptian boats.
Harry: "Tell me one last thing. Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?"
Dumbledore: "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"
Just because the forums aren't as active as they used to be, doesn't mean we're not anywhere else! FYI I'm now at the Harry Potter fan site, COS forums, as 'Liez' if you miss me!

Re: HDM video games.
To avoid getting the video-game discussion completely off track, let´s talk about Lego bricks somewhere else, shall we?

Re: HDM video games.
i wish there was a lego HDM, the other lego games were awesome, childish though they seem... also i wish they hadn't botched up the movie so badly - could have been sooo much more

I would love to play an HDM video game so long as I don't have tp play as Lyra or Will,
but rather play as myself and choose my own Dæmon

Good idea - if intricate enough, an Oxford RPG would be nice for this.

the thing with an oxford based RPG, is there arent enough places in Oxford, so it could be spread out to the whole of the multiverse of the series?
also, if RPG is the way forward, then could different Dæmon have different plot helps (eg like a diffenrence between mage and warrior kind of thing) and then the ability to draft SPC's into your party, so you can access more places/more ways to accomplish goals
