Just read that in February, Phillip Pullman gave a interview on BridgetoTheStars.com saying that he's thinking of doing the Book of Dust in two volumes - a prequel to HDM, and one that takes place after, starring Lyra when she's roughly sixteen.
So, what are your thoughts? I'm would LOVE if they did a prequel.

Re: Two volumes?
Same! I'm soo glad he's going to write them in two volumes like that because I was worried he was only going to write about what happend after HDM. But I am much more interested in reading about everything that happened before. For me I mostly wanted to read about Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter and how they met and how they got to where they were at the begging of TGC.
Also it'd be cool to read about the witches and John Parry and even Iorek. I hope it'll come out within like 3 years at leasstt. I don't mind waiting as long as its good but I'd like it to come out asap
haha

Re: Two volumes?
It sounds to me like Pullman's still trying to decide exactly what to put in TBoD...
He's been working on it on & off for at least 6 years I think...
Splitting it seems like a good idea, so that he doesn't have to compromise on the content. Stuff that seems mutually exclusive can be split between volumes.
Here's hoping we get something soon!

I hope he comes out with it soon, too. We've been waiting way too long, haha.
"I see," she said.
And she pushed him hard, so that he fell out of the machine.

Re: Two volumes?
"For the last few years his main project has been the Book of Dust, a mammoth story to follow on from the Northern Lights trilogy that he has decided will come in two parts. “I shall be really glad to get back to The Book of Dust and give it my full attention – and this time finish it,” he says." (http://www.tottenhamjournal.co.uk/what- ... _1_1149052)
If that is stated correctly it would rather dismiss the idea of a prequel, and more putwo volumes in place due to the 'mammot story' and the increase in revenue if it is sold in two parts... :-)
However, I hope PP is now really giving TBoD his full attention. I am not worried about the book not being good, as it wouldn't be a PP book otherwise.

Re: Two volumes?
Thanks for the update! It's nice to hear from something really recent that he's still working on it. But, I'm still really hoping one of them is a prequel and that they're both not just after. Most of my favorite characters died during the series! So I want to read more about them.
Re: Two volumes?
I like the idea of two volumes because that means he can release one and then have some more time to make sure he gets the last one just right
I would like one of them to be on the characters before Lyra. Kind of like The Book of Dust, but with more characters and more content in general. A prequal about Lyra honestly doesn't really interest me all that much, but I would read it anyways (I can't judge a book by its cover
).
Re: Two volumes?
At this point in time, it's been so long since the HDM books finished and I haven't read them for ages, so I doubt I'd even buy the Book of Dust.
You pull me through time.
Re: Two volumes?
Its been way to long but I'll still try to get it from a library. Pretty sure it won't be out until next year though with the pace he's been going.

Re: Two volumes?
It's been a long time since I've read HDM, I don't know if I care about it anymore.. I know this is a bad thing to say >_<

Re: Two volumes?
Meh, it's Pullman's fault not ours. It's been about 8 years since he said he was working on it, and he still reckons there is years to go before it will be done. I think we've been bloody patient so far, but by the time it eventually is finished, we'll all have moved on and pretty much forgotten about HDM, so I doubt it will sell much.

Maybe for you guys... for me, good books never die. I enjoy them all my life. I can't understand how one could stop caring or forget about a story as moving as HDM... it will be on my list of favorites till the day I die.
Anyway, the key to "survival" is not to become so wrapped up in a single work of fiction, or even, a single genre of fiction. Branch out. Read more. You'll like what you find.
