Summary: Lyra's Oxford

Lyra’s Oxford is a small companion novel to the His Dark Materials trilogy. Set two years following the events of the main trilogy, Lyra’s Oxford contains the short story entitled “Lyra and the Birds,” as well as a number of oddities and extras from the various worlds in His Dark Materials. The extras include a foldout map of Lyra’s parallel Oxford, a postcard from Mary Malone, advertisements from Lyra’s world, and a brochure from the cruise ship Zenobia.

"Lyra and the Birds" is the main story featured in the book. It follows a short adventure of Lyra and her dæmon, Pantalaimon, through Oxford. Ragi, a witch’s dæmon in the form of an arctic tern, comes to Lyra in need of her assistance in finding a mysterious man by the name of Sebastian Makepeace. When Lyra agrees to help the dæmon, she and Pantalaimon quickly find themselves involved in something more than they’d agreed upon. Together they discover that all things are greater than they seem, if only they can understand the meaning.
