A reminder that fans of His Dark Materials from the UK can expect to pick up their copies of Once Upon A Time In The North starting today, 3 April.
There are also reports from readers that the bookstore Borders, the online seller Amazon, and a smattering of international retail locations have released their copies of this His Dark Materials companion novel.

OK I really can’t wait to read this, but on the website’s of borders and barnes and noble it says it will be available for release on april 8th. other places, wikipedia for example say it will be available april 22nd. which one is it?!?

I envy all of you in England who are able to read the book already! I can’t wait to see it next week here in the states.
LoveBitesLoveBleeds, I believe the book is scheduled to be released here on the eighth. Hopefully Amazon and Border’s have the date right, as it would be terrible to have to endure the wait for this book for another two weeks! ^_^

US release date is the 8th, and there have been reports of the book being available already in other countries outside of the UK.

I read it and I must say I really like it, the story is short, but good and the pictures are amazing. The extras in the book are also intersesting.

#5 Once About a Time...
I received my book last week and devoured it in two sessions. It was hard to put down as it really “fleshed out” Lee Scoresby. The engravings by John Lawrence are timeless and remind me of a straight Edward Gorey for some reason. I haven’t opened “Peril of the Pole” yet and will probably wait awhile to keep the book in its original condition.
It does read like a period “Western”, but now is a Pullman “Northern”. Not much difference, and as stated early on, this is a very readable story. It also reads like a “Treatment” and could be film material. As these are just comments I’ll try for a longer essay in the appropriate Forum.
These two short stories (Lyra’s Oxford and Once About a Time...) beg the question about “Wills Book”. When, Mr. Pullman, will you give us this alluded promise?
All this, and it made my day.
