According to "The Washington Post," which interviewed the British actor Ian McShane, best known in the US for his starring role in the series "Deadwood," McShane will have a part in "The Golden Compass," probably a voice-over role.
"He'll also eventually be seen -- or rather heard, in voice-over form -- in "Shrek the Third," "Kung Fu Panda" and "His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass," Chris Weitz's "huge" live-action/animated adaptation of the Carnegie Medal-winning children's book."
There is no specific mention of what part he will play. There is also no independent confirmation of this news as yet.
