This one is an old CBBC article about the His Dark Materials movies. Quite a lot of interesting information, but it says:
It means that Will, Lyra and her daemon Pantalaimon could soon be taking on the Dark Forces on the big screen.
The Dark Forces? Oh dear. Read the article below.
The people who breathed magical life into the Lord of the Rings could soon be doing the same for Phillip Pullman's mystical Dark Materials trilogy.
The American showbiz magazine Variety reports that New Line Cinema have bought the rights to turn Pullman's award-winning tales into a film.
It means that Will, Lyra and her daemon Pantalaimon could soon be taking on the Dark Forces on the big screen.
Captures the imagination
New Line Cinema said: "Like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, it [Northern Lights] is one of those books that captures your imagination and just runs with it".
Philip Pullman has written three books in the trilogy, Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass - which in January won the Whitbread Book of the Year prize.
In an interview with CBBC Newsround Online immediately afterwards, Philip hinted that a film was in the offing.
But he told us that to make it look as spectacular as he wants, it needs a lot of money, and "you don't get that sort of money hanging on trees".
Fresh from the success of the first Lord of the Rings movie, New Line Cinema will probably have both the skills and the cash to turn his vision into reality.
And it could give both the Rings and Harry Potter a run for their money!
