The Golden Compass Booth at Comic-Con

MTV Movies Blog reports: Our team is on the ground in San Diego, and we’re the first inside Comic-Con!

Our friends at New Line were nice enough to sneak us in a side door and let us tour their massive display for December’s “The Golden Compass.” And to even call it a “booth” is ridiculous, because it’s big enough to house the cast of a Steve Martin family film.

While the hall was empty, we ran between a 10-foot-tall statue of Iorek the grizzly bear (he feels fuzzy), displays of one-of-a-kind elaborate costumes worn by Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, and even got to hold the Golden Compass itself (it weighs like 8 pounds!).

Some 140,000 people will come through here this weekend, see these props and get their photos inserted in the film’s poster. And after experiencing it all, I can honestly say it’s a glorious geek necessity this weekend.

Grizzly bear? Pbbbtthh. Silly people. At least you should be able to see that it's white!
But I wonder whose costume that is in the first picture…

First photo is Lyra's costume - haven't seen that outer layer yet that I can recall, the one they've got on the article itself is LA's.

I love the dæmon-separator device.  It reminds me a great deal in shape of this mirror disk my grandma had which you'd put something inside the disc and its image would appear as if floating directly above the disc.  We were never very creative so it was always floating paper clips and rocks.

Seeing all this stuff in person was really impressive.  They had video screens around the whole display, showing scenes from the movie, behind the scenes stuff, and interviews with actors, Weitz, and other people working on the film.  I stayed around watching it for around a half hour.
