The New Line presentation at Comic-Con 2007 screened a special 5 minute long extended preview. It's basically an edited version of the 10 minute preview which we saw in Cannes.

The preview includes a lot of cinematics, dialogue and more dæmon detail than ever seen before.

I haven't been this excited since I first heard that The Golden Compass was going to be a movie! That is the best trailer of all so far!

Is that Freddie Highmore as Pan? 'o'
I wasn't too sure about the actor for Lee Scoresby, but he seems really great! I haven't really gotten a good enough clip of him until now.

#2 Daemon detail

Finally we see Pantalaimon shape-shift, and talk!

I never imaged Pan's voice to be of a boy. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we all imaged pan to already have a grown up voice, albeit not "Barry White" deep, but at least adult while reading the trilogy.

But when I read why they didn't want that, because Pan should grow up and mature while Lyra grows up and matures, it made all the sense in the world to cast a young boy as the voice.  And while it's going to take a while to get used to not expecting pan to sound like an adult, I think they made the right choice and I think Pan is simply amazing.

The trailer as a whole has me more excited than any trailer I've seen for any movie in a very long time. CAN'T WAIT!

It looks sooooooo good. Finally we see the daemons! Nicole Kidman looks totally icy perfect. When I first heard she was MC I was like 'What? She doesn't fit at all!!' now i've like TOTALLY changed my mind she looks perfect.

Dakota also looks fantastic. I love the look on her face when she's like 'Me? Go North?' and 'An armored bear!?'

perfect. love all, only the golden monkey i was expecting more, hope they work more on his fur; probably they will…

Yes, the Golden Monkey isn´t that creepy, but everything else is Great!!!
Daemons is the best! Stelmaria and Pan are awesome and they did the form-shifting extremely well, and Pan's voice perfectly fits.
Bears are PERFECT!!!!!
the one thing that worries me a little is Coulter looking a bit stupid with that perenne smile on her face…

Wow. Wow. This actually looks like it could be good… Not too sure of the daemons when they are on the rooftop, they don't look quite finished yet, but I'm sure they're working on it. Stelmaria when she walks in to the room is PERFECT. Don't know why, but I really like that. Over all, I'm just excited to see something I've been waiting for forever.

#8 stupid smile??

as what scene?

the look of lyra's world is significantly more 'shiny sci-fi' than it was in my head - i was hoping for something a bit more 'steam-punk', but what the hell, other than that it looks amazin!

I personally thought that the footage we saw was very good. I do agree with some of the others that a few of the daemons (golden monkey) need some additional CGI sprucing up but overall I thought it was very impressive. I especially liked the look of Mrs. Coulter's apartment and the sweeping landscape shots of the North. The movie is still in post-production so chances are they are still fine tuning the look of the film. I have full faith in New Line and I'm sure the final result will be dazzling.

#12

One thing though...the guy that plays Fra Pavel looks like a pretty bad actor.

# July 29, 2007 05:04 by anna11

#13

Hmm let's just hope, Anna, that it we only saw the worst of him in the footage.. maybe he will be better in the film!

*hopes*

# July 29, 2007 09:43 by Bekster

#14

Simon McBurney was quite good in The Last King of Scotland, where he played a similar role to Fra Pavel. He isn't at all a bad actor. Hopefully that'll show when the film comes out!

The footage looks incredible though. Love Iofur's jaw getting whacked off at the end.

# July 29, 2007 11:11 by daftbrain

#15

I love to the jaw think, but what worries me is that is there no blood, and there must be blood in this scene…

# July 29, 2007 11:20 by situ

#16

Finally a trailer with Pan's voice! I've wanted to hear his voice for so long!
By the way, did you see how Serafina appeared out of the air before stabbing that guy with the sword? I thought it looked pretty cool even though we don't hear about her ability to become invisible before the second book…

# July 29, 2007 17:53 by AnneMaria

#17

All the changes they are making so far are great, it means that people who decide to read the books after watching the movie would have something new to experience, just like we will be experiencing some new scenes in this movie.

#18

Although I would've liked them to have pronounced dæmon a different way. I would have liked it to be pronounced DAY-mon instead of DEE-mon… Since the æ sound is like the a in day or way.

# July 30, 2007 00:50 by AnneMaria

#19

Situ-I'm sure there will be blood in the actual film. There is only so much violence you can show in a trailer that is allowed to be seen by a wide audience, so that's probably why it's toned down in this preview.  At least that's what I think…

# July 30, 2007 01:29 by whohash83

#20 At last!

The first two trailers didn't impress me (especially the first one!), and I was worried for a while.
But this looks great! I can't wait till December!

# July 30, 2007 01:36 by Kytescall

#21 Dæmon

But I thought it was pronounced DEE-mon. And that was why Will confused dæmons with demons.

# July 30, 2007 03:37 by Miss Bear

#22

It is pronounced the same way as the word 'demon'. There's a note by Philip Pullman at the start of my copy of Northern Lights where he states that.

# July 30, 2007 09:57 by daftbrain

#23

Oh allright, didn't know that. I just assumed it was pronounced like in Danish (although dæmon is actually pronounced day-MON, but whatever...)

# July 30, 2007 21:37 by AnneMaria

#24

Looks Fantastic!!!!

Looks amazing! Can't wait for December! :D:D:D:D

#26 Great!

That trailer was very good! I think that, unlike some movies I have seen before, this film will do some justice to the book. Everything looks good so far, I can't wait to see it! It seems that even though the religion has been taken out of the movie its still going to be awesome! Finally, Pan's voice! *rejoices with other fans*

At first I didn't agree with Nicole Kidman as Mrs.Coulter because in my mind Mrs.Coulter had long black hair and was very beautiful. Not that Nicole Kidman isn't very stunning, but she doesn't fit the picture I imagined. But that's how movies always are, I imagine. They never really go with what you thought.

I get so excited watching these trailers, seeing parts of the movie..I can't wait! I love the part where Lord Asriel is working his machine...Ah, Daniel Craig is so...good looking!

# July 31, 2007 14:21 by Sabriel

#27 YES!

Pan voice is great! You can lsiten to it easily and It seemes perfect for their age.

I hope they make the scene where Coulter asks for the alethiometer a bit better… Lyra didnt appear to be hurting when she said "Stop it it hurts!".... everything else looked great! Keep up the good work!

The Golden Compass comes out three days before my birthday! It looks freakin' awesome!

OMG OMG OMG this is the best, was worried that it would cut stuff out like harry potter films, i am relived to see that this film wont follow the same path!

# August 2, 2007 12:57 by Aquemnun Byrnison

#30

I'm so happy to hear Pan's voice! It's really a little bit too childish, maybe, but I like it.
And Stelmaria is simply perfect!!I like so much the way she moves when she enters the room...Awesome!
I simply can't wait for december! :D

The new footage makes me more excited to watch the film. Personally, I love Freddie Highmore as Pan.

# August 7, 2007 11:30 by Nata

#32

It looks so amazing!  I think it just might be the first movie based on a novel that fully lives up to my expectations!  And the casting is perfect! Daniel Craig?  Eva Green?  Absolutely, one hundred percent the best choices for those characters.  And I think that Nicole Kidman will be great, even if she is a Blonde....

# August 8, 2007 03:05 by Ruta S

#33

she will be perfect, nicole...and dakora are improving to me, i like her now, some expressions in her face are just perfect, like "me? going to the north?" and " a armoured bear?"

# August 11, 2007 00:28 by tato

#34 Soundtrack

Looks great. December seems so far from now O_o

Anyone else noticed that they used "Summon The Worms" from the Children of Dune soundtrack at the end of the preview?

#37

yay! some thing to fill that december LOTR void lol.

It does look so good! I wanna be in it!!! lol my only worry was the same as what someone else said about Lyra being hurt, she really didn't look in pain lol or that Coulter was holding very tight!

# August 22, 2007 23:41 by Cassandra

#38 #38

It all seems so perfect (except for Ms. C) and the daemons do need some work.  Lee doesn't fit at all.  I don't know why.  I really liked him in the books.  it is probley the best trailer i have seen.  Cant wait for the movie in December.
