Today New Line launced the first teaser trailer for The Golden Compass. This trailer will also be shown in cinemas together with Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

It is interesting to note that various scenes from the trailer were also shown at the press screening.

Note: The material in this trailer isn't finished yet! There is still an incredibly amount of CGI and post processing that needs to be done.

OH.  MY.  GOD (figuratively).  I am beyond excited.  It's everything I could have dreamed.  It's amazing.

There were a couple of old people I didn't really recognize.  I saw the Master, and Fra Pavel, and John Faa, but who was the one talking about her loyalty being tested?  And who was the one with the big beard talking to Lord Asriel?

#12 Not Yet

This isn't the final version yet, so there's still a lot of work that needs to be done: for example on the panserbjorne.

After about ten views I can finally comment.

Impressive, quite impressive. Even Paul Weitz got onboard for something there - although I can't read the credits at that size that's fun. I wonder if Pullman's credited in original material or assisting screen adaptation (next to Chris Weitz) probably the former but the latter might be fun for him since he started with his school plays.

"but who was the one talking about her loyalty being tested? And who was the one with the big beard talking to Lord Asriel?"

I'd say Father Heyst the former, Father MacPhail would be the obvious were he Scots, we know they're not against early introductions (Fra Pavel) certainly someone in the Magisterium and likely "her" refers to Mrs. Coulter rather than Lyra (as we're to think I take it).

The bearded fellow I really want to say is Patrick Godfrey, but he hasn't been cast in any role. Fairly certain it's John Franklyn-Robbins, the Librarian.

I still don't like Iorek. He's unnatural, love his voice though, really love Nonso Anozie but he doesn't really properly whack Ragnar's jaw clean off.

As well as the not finalised panserbjorne, the score is from "The Lady in the Water" so no original music yet.

Great! can't wait to see it complete and finished.
:-( don't like the bears, though… and I hope they add cloudpine to the witches

I know that it's pretty stupid,but...Few tears came to my eyes. Obviously they still have to work on this, but I've finally realized that the movie is coming soon, after all this years...And that's moving, really! :D

# May 23, 2007 16:51 by Esme

#18

No, that's the real size.

Note: The official site has it in much higher quality, downloadable.

Iorek ( the polar bear ) looked a bit digital, yes. I hope they reanimate him. He's my favourite.

okaaaaaaaaaay…
NOT HOW I PICTURE LYRA AT ALL!!!
but hey, they're doing the best they can. also, is it just me, or do ya'all picture Mrs.Coulter with DARK hair, NOT BLONDE?! whatever.

# May 31, 2007 22:45 by Miss_Iorek_of_Florida

#25

no, i picture her very blonde and i find Nicole Kidman the best person for the role.

Well, i think it's safe to assume no one actually likes how Iorek came out, but if they're going to work on him more (and on the other bears we haven't seen yet) he will probably look better.

I still think Daniel Craig is crap as Lord Asriel.

# June 1, 2007 06:18 by Val E

#26

i agree, daniel craig doesn't look as if he fits the bill here. I was imagining someone more...i don't know fierce looking. But none the less i am beyond excited for this to come out! I only wish i'd tried out for lyra....anyone know of anything about a second movie?

# June 6, 2007 20:06 by republic-of-heaven

this looks way cool though i do agree the bears are too digital.. oh welll i hope they keep it truer to the books than the harry potter movies anyone know how long it is?

"Note: The material in this trailer isn't finished yet! There is still an incredibly amount of CGI and post processing that needs to be done."

I can only hope that is so true, because honestly I'm a little disappointed with some of what I see. The bears in particular somehow feel a little unconvincing.  Iorek has an eerie resemblance of sissy-like, namby-pamby Aslan from the mediocre Narnia film about him. (I mean come on, I want to see some believable ARMORED BEARS, I want to see some honest-to-God, razor sharp, blood-dripping claws...) Also a lot of the audio seems weak at times. Lee Scoresby kind of reminds of a cross between an antebellum Baptist preacher and Colonel Sanders, but, ah well, I guess that's just part of his inherent character. And why don't I see Pan anywhere...?? (Unless that's him at the end, turning into a cat or something??) Actually you barely see any of the daemons at all...Maybe I'm just taking this thing too seriously, but I really hope this turns out to be good. Whatever it may be, this film is definitely going to be an opening-night viewing for me.
