The staff of HisDarkMaterials.org would like to wish all our members and visitors a very merry christmas!

Hopefully everybody will have a wonderful christmas, free from unplanned mishaps.

Still no christmas card from us this year, so instead we have a nice picture of a christmas tree!

It has been two years ago since HDM.org was launched as a small His Dark Materials Fansite. Since then, we've grown a lot to become one of the leading His Dark Materials websites on the net. We'd like to celebrate this event with you all by unveiling some of the new features of His Dark Materials .org.

• Today we officially launch our His Dark Materials RPG (Role Playing Game): The Realm of Dust. Roam Svalbard as a Panserbjørne, explore Lyra's Oxford or make friends with Mulefa with your own character(s).
  Please have a look around the RPG's website for more information!

• In an effort to make the Cittagazze Forum even more pleasant to you we've worked hard to enable theme selection. The fact that you don't like the dark theme shouldn't be an excuse anymore to join our His Dark Materials Community!
  Please refer to the theme switching thread for more information and support. You can also suggest more themes there.

• If that's not enough for you, we'll unveil more new features to improve our site in the coming weeks.
  (And remember, if you have any suggestions please let us know!)

I'm sure most people know by now, but Thursday morning London was attacked in a series of bomb blasts. The blasts, caused by terrorists, specifically targeted the morning commuters of London's rush hour.

 

If you were there, or knew someone there we'd love for you to drop us a message and we'd love to hear you're all okay - even if you're not a regular member. Please feel welcome to discuss this event in our forums.

Our hearts, prayers and good thoughts go out to those people, their families and their friends who were involved in this.

Not so much an article as an announcement.

I would personally like to extend my congratulations to all members of HDM.ORG who have just undergone the grueling horror of final exams.

I would particularly like to say WELL DONE to all of you, who, like me have just finished taking their GCSEs or AS-Levels or A-Levels. It's all over!

This coming week I am to suffer a horrible fate. I have exams. In other words, I won't have the time to post a lot of interesting information that I have recently uncovered.

It'll be next weekend until I'll finally get round to the layout contest, stage play reviews, newsletter etc.

PS: One last annoucement I would like to make is that the National Theatre's His Dark Materials stage play guide contains a wonderful map of the arctic, donated by Lord Asriel and created by Philip Pullman. Worth buying the guide for.

If you're reading this, welcome. Welcome to the newest HisDarkMaterials.org webserver. I know, this is the 3rd move in the space of six months, but this server is definately the best one yet. In other words, we should finally be able to keep our uptime at 99.99% per month. I'll do a manual restart every sunday evening or so to make sure that you suffer the least downtime.

After a slight delay with the file transfer we are now on the new server, which is more than twice as fast as the previous one. This means that the messageboard is active again, so get posting!

As you can see we have three main layout images on our website. We decided that it might be a good idea to change these images, so the contest is as follows: we are going to let you design a new layout. You can decide if you want the images to fit on a black or a white background, as we can accomodate both. The layout has to consist of three images of 800x55 pixels in .jpg format.

We realize that you might need some time to come up with a good design, so you can send you fanart to contest@hisdarkmaterials.org until November 1st 2004. All members will be allowed to enter as many layouts as they can think of. After the competition has closed we will let you vote for them. The work with the most votes will be made into our default site layout. The runners up will also be made into other layouts, then can be selected in the theme menu on your account page.

• The Return of Cittagazze
  

  The oldest His Dark Materials messageboard, Cittagazze, has been restored. Please note, that this will not replace our messageboard, it's only there as a back-up and as pure nostalgia.

On September the first in the year of 2003 a new website was opened to public, His Dark Materials.org. This website grew incredibly fast and changed the whole His Dark Materials fan scene. Now, with over one million visitors, almost 1300 members and an ever-growing community we are among the largest and most active His Dark Materials websites on the net. Frequent news updates, a large fan base and an open and accessible community are some of the biggest pros of His Dark Materials.org.

We have a few events to celebrate our anniversary and our millionth visitor, so check the news often.
