The book contains never before seen pictures including concept art. JParry has also kindly provided a comprehensive summary of information and quotes gleamed from the Quiz Book, such as John Faa's ship being named the Noorderlicht (Northern Lights in Dutch) and the Master of Jordan being arrested by Magisterial Police for heresy, in this thread in the Cittàgazze Forum. Fantastic! I may not love all of it but merchandising = marketing, more views = more viewers. In any case it’s great to see more “stuff” available.

The premium trading cards “pieceworks” set are really pretty interesting! I know I’m sending away for my free promo card!

#3 Merchendise

I for one will not be buying into this merchandising.  I love the books to death, I own all the hardback copies and have read them at least 5x each.  I also own TGC on audio tape.  I however at most will probably buy a poster if I love the movie but I hate to see it when it becomes so commercial and I’m not going to go out and spend tons of money on lots of cards and pieces of plastic that I don’t need.

I don’t know somehow I understand it’s necessary so they can go on and make the second and third books into films but I find it kind of excessive.  I mean when they are selling Iorek’s slashing claws that make noise I mean common who needs that.

#4 Whoa.

You know, when I read the books five years ago… I never thought… PEZ?! Oh holy hell.
Guess it comes with the movie. Le sigh.

Wasn’t sure whether to laugh my ass off or throw up at the sight of an Iorek Byrnison ‘plushie’ Iorek is NOT ‘cuddly character. Ah well. Money speaks louder then authenticity I suppose.

When I heard about planned merchendise for the film, I was thrilled at the idea of an Alethiometer, but I hope to hell the plastic ones won’t be the only ones made. I’d prefer metal- sturdier and truer to the book.

Master Replicas is part of Corgi and they’ve made some lovely stuff in the past, I’d expect the alethiometer replicas to come from that direction but haven’t heard anything yet.

That Asriel doll in the picture with the Lyra doll looks more like Harrison Ford than Daniel Craig…
