Biography
Ian McShane (born 29 September 1942 in Lancashire, England) is a highly accomplished film, television and theatre actor. A secondary school teacher spurred his talent in a play and helped Ian to enrol in the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He has spent four decades adding memorable film, television and theatre credits to his repertoire. He is best known for his performance as the title character in the BCC series Lovejoy (1986-1994) and his critically acclaimed characterisation of Al Swearengen in the HBO series Deadwood (2004-). The latter role has earned Ian a Golden Globe award and an Emmy nomination for best actor in a drama series. His gruff voice will also be heard portraying villains in the upcoming computer-generated Shrek 3 (2007) and Kung Fu Panda (2007) movies.
