Lyra's World's term for electricity. According to Philip Pullman: "I looked up the word electric, and I found that it came from the Greek word for 'amber.' The Greeks knew that if they rubbed a piece of amber, they could create static electricity. Then I looked up the word amber, and found it came from the Arabic word 'anbar.'" This is an example of esoteric renaming. Anbaric current is generated at an Anbaric Park. The field of Anbarology is dedicated to the study of Anbaric current. One of the main uses of Anbaric current is to power Anbaric Lights.
