Baruch
From Srafopedia
A low-ranking angel and the younger of Will's angelic guides, sent by Lord Asriel to bring Will and the Subtle Knife back to the Adamant Tower. The love he shares with Balthamos allows them to communicate with each other across great distances. He succeeds in reaching the Adamant Tower with important news after fighting off a number of cliff ghasts, but dies of his wounds after delivering his message. Before his death it is learned that in life he was the brother of Enoch, known as Metatron. He mentions his being cast out by his brother, though the reason is left unsaid, though it is said that his brother was a lover of flesh. Speculation exists about the sexuality of Baruch, and his particular relationship with Balthamos.
In today's world, the [Book of Baruch] is found in the Old Testament of the Bible. He is supposedly the scribe for the prophet Jeremiah.
The book begins as such:
Now these are the words of the scroll which Baruch, son of Neriah, son of Mahseiah, son of Zedekiah, son of Hasadiah, son of Hilkiah, wrote in Babylon in the fifth year. And Baruch read the words of this scroll for Jeconiah, son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, to hear it, as well as all the people who came to the reading: the nobles, the kings' sons, the elders, and the whole people, small and great alike-all who lived in Babylon by the river Sud. Baruch is also Hebrew for "blessed", and is often used in Hebrew prayer -- e. g. "blessed be thou", etc.
