Carnegie Medal

The Carnegie Medal, named in memory of the Scottish philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, is a British award that is awarded to british-born authors for novels that are outstanding in the field of children's literature. The Northern Lights, the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy was awarded the Carnegie medal in 1996. The winner of the medal is given a gold medal and £500 worth of books to donate to the library of their choice.
