One of the Scholars of Jordan College privy to the meeting with Lord Asriel in the Retiring Room. Important, as it is he who concludes that the mathematical arguments presented by Barnard-Stokes are sensible. He once told Lyra that Genesis in the Bible was just a fairy tale, and later in TGC Lord Asriel tells Lyra that the Cassington Scholarship is always given to a freethinker, because his function is solely to challenge the faith of the other Scholars.
