One of the leaders of the western Gyptians, Farder Coram becomes a favoured friend of Lyra and helps her learn to use the alethiometer. Farder was, before the setting of the trilogy, the rescuer of the beautiful Witch clan Queen Serafina Pekkala, and eventually became her lover, and the father of her deceased infant son. His dæmon is a beautiful autumn-colored cat named Sophonax.
