In our world, Dr. John Dee (1527-1608), magician, astrologer and spy for Queen Elizabeth I, is credited as the developer of Enochian Magick based on his communications with many angels, in particular, Uriel. His Mortlake residence housed a library of over 4,000 manuscripts, an extraordinary collection for its day; unfortunately, it was lost to fire. Enochian Magick hearkens back to tales of the same Enoch who causes so much trouble in His Dark Materials. Enoch, in the Jewish mystical tradition, was taught by the angels, including Uriel, and at death joined their forces as Metatron.
