Europe is one of the seven continents, the others being: Asia; Africa; Australasia (Oceania); North America; South America; and Antarctica. It comprises the lands lying to the north of the Mediterranean Sea and west of the Ural Mountains in Russia. By historical convention, the passage joining the Mediterranean with the Black Sea is taken as the boundary with Asia -- hence parts of the country of Turkey lie in different continents.

The "European Union" (EU) in Our World is a political and commercial grouping of most of the countries in Europe. In the future, an extension into Asia is likely, with Turkey already making an application to join.

To the west, some of the islands in the Atlantic Ocean are considered European -- notably Iceland and Svalbard -- although Greenland, which is politically "part of Denmark", lies in North America.
