After finishing school she studied acting at Saint Paul Drama School in Paris, and Weber Douglas academy of Dramatic Art in London. She then went to live in New York and studied direction there. After she finished her direction course she returned to Paris where she became involved with stage productions. During one of these she caught the eye of director Bernardo Bertolucci. He met with her and after several meetings she landed a role in The Dreamers She received both critical acclaim for this roll, and criticism of the full frontal nudity and explicit sexual content in it. This was her first film role. After she appeared in Arsène Lupin opposite Romain Duris. Her Hollywood big break however, was when she starred opposite Orlando Bloom and Edward Norton (Who she has said is her favourite actor) in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven. Unfortunately for Eva, her multi-layered performance ended up being cut by almost half in the theatrical version. You can see her full performance in the directors cut.
She was then offered the role The Black Dahlia that went to Hilary Swank but turned it down because she didn't want to end up typecast as a femme fatale after her role in The Dreamers. Instead, Eva Green became the 5th French actress to play a Bond girl in the new James Bond film Casino Royale. She starred opposite Daniel Craig as Bond, who is also in The Golden Compass
Eva enjoys cooking, walking her dog, collecting art and playing music.
Quotes
It must be very shocking for the American people, but what I don't understand is why they are so crazy about that. I don't understand why you can't see naked people on screen but we can see a baby being killed. It's quite strange. They're too puritan, too uptight." On her role in The Dreamers
I don't want to be a Hollywood star. I just want to do my job and enjoy it. My aim is to find my true identity and to remain true to myself."
I don't believe in getting awards, but it's very good for the ego I suppose.
