Gallivespians

A race of very small people who are employed by Lord Asriel as spies. The life expectancy of a Gallivespian is only 9 years. They have spurs on their heels which contain a very powerful poison. After they use their spurs, the spurs have to recharge again, taking a day or so to reach full potency.

The Gallivespians ride on specially bred dragonflies, unique to each clan. These are fitted with lightweight saddles of hummingbird skin, spider-silk reigns, and stirrups of titanium. The leader of the Gallivespians rides a blue hawk.

The Gallivespians are one of two conscious and intelligent species that inhabit their world, together with a race of men obedient to God that hunt the Gallivespians. In some ways, the relationship between the Gallivespians and the large men on their world is comparable to that between the Mulefa and the Tualapi.
