Gypsy
From Srafopedia
Gypsy is an occasionaly derogatory term for certain ethnic minorities, and also (inaccurately) to refer to 'travellers' in general. It is mostly used to describe Romani, or Rroma people, of Central and Eastern Europe, but the word should generally be avoided as its connotations are often considered offensive.
The origin of the word in English is from the Earlier Middle English gipcyan gyptian, < Old French gyptien, short for Egyptian < Latin Aegyptius; when they first appeared in England in the sixteenth century they were believed to have come from Egypt.
