Gyptians
From Srafopedia
A nomadic group of waterfarers who live on canal boats and travel to Oxford for the spring and autumn fairs. They show great resemblance to the Dutch of our world, and also to the Gypsies (the similarity of the names "Gyptians" and "Gypsies" is an example of esoteric renaming). Most of the Gyptians have Dutch names and the flood in 1953 is also mentioned in The Golden Compass/Northern Lights. The stronghold of the Western Gyptians is in the Fens, in East Anglia. Lord Asriel is a friend and protector of the Gyptians.
