Hell
From Srafopedia
Hell, put simply, is not a very nice place to be. Traditionally filled with fire and brimstone, it is the permanent residence of all sinners who do not repent in front of God. According to John Milton's Paradise Lost, Satan rules over Hell from his palace, Pandæmonium, ensuring that every man, woman and child that falls into his realm will suffer for eternity.
Described in the Bible, Hell is simply and absence of God. This means that all the good, soft, smooth, light, bright, etcetera that God supplied humankind with will no longer be there, replaced instead with pain, suffering and angst. Contrary to belief, the physical body is also sent to Hell, allowing the physical tortures to take place, but unlike on Earth, it is immortal and cannot die- allowing torture to last for eternity.
In His Dark Materials, there is no Heaven or Hell, only the World of the Dead.
