A doctor who works in the same building as Mary Malone, can be found on the third floor. Lyra dupes the porter by pretending to wish to speak to Dr. Lister instead of Dr. Malone.
Dr. Lister is also the name of the 19th century doctor who popularized asepsis and antisepsis in surgery.
