Edward Coulter, a very powerful man and confidante of the King, was the husband of Marisa Coulter. Upon realizing that Marisa's new child belonged to Lord Asriel and not to him, while the two were still married, Edward Coulter rushed to Asriel's house, where the daughter, Lyra, was hidden. Asriel arrived, and the two dueled. Asriel killed him with a single pistol shot to the head. His daemon was never mentioned.
