Mulefa

Creatures that look a bit like antelopes and are described as having a diamond shaped bone structure, dependant on large round seed pods they use as wheel attachments at the bottoms of their legs. The mulefa live in communal societies that are very much in touch with the natural world that surrounds them. It is through her contact with the mulefa (and her quickly found friendship with Atal) that Dr. Mary Malone creates The Amber Spyglass and uncovers the mystery of the disappearing sraf. Mulefa know of sraf and can see it with their naked eyes. The word "mulefa" means people in their own language. They are the intelligent animal species of their world, comparable to humans and gallivespian. A single mulefa is reffered to as a zalif.
