Short Biography
Nicole Kidman was born June 20, 1967, in Honolulu, to Australian parents. Her family returned to Australia when Kidman was four years old. It was around this time she joined a young people's theatre company, shortly after beginning ballet lessons. Her first film role was in the music video "Bop Girl" in 1983, when she was fifteen, and before the end of the year she had secured four film roles and one television role.
She married Tom Cruise the 24th of December 1990, with whom she adopted two children. The couple separated shortly before their 10th wedding anniversary, and divorced August 8 2001. Following her divorce, she married country singer Keith Urban June 25th 2006.
Role in The Golden Compass Movie Production
Nicole Kidman is playing the role of Marisa Coulter in the film The Golden Compass, produced by New Line Cinema, which has been released on the 7th of December 2007 worldwide. Philip Pullman reportedly requested her specifically to play the role of Mrs. Coulter in the films.
A series of stills have been released showing images of her as well as Dakota Blue Richards, who plays the role of Lyra, and Daniel Craig who plays Lord Asriel. All of the scenes that she appeared in had finished filming by December of 2006.
Extended Biography
She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii USA to Anthony and Janelle Kidman. Her family soon moved to Washington, DC and then to a suburb in Sydney, Australia - the original home of both her parents. She enjoyed ballet lessons, but soon took up drama and mime. Working regularly at the Philip Street theatre, she once recieved a personal letter of encouragement from a member of the audience in one of her shows. She eventually dropped out of high school to pursue acting and at age 16 landed a leading role in the Australian "Bush Christmas" (1983).
She eventually made her US debut in the thriller "Dead Calm" (1989). In her next role in "Days of Thunder" (1990), she starred as Tom Cruise's love interest and won him over. They married on Christmas Eve of that year and she pressed on, trying to develop her individual career as an actress.
When her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, Nicole took time off to take a massage course so she could provide physical therapy. Fortunately, her mother survived the illness.
Kidman and Cruise adopted two children: Isabella Jane (Born in 1993) and Connor Anthony (born in 1995). The couple, however, split in early 2001 due to career conflicts.
Two years later, Nicole won both the Golden Globe and the coveted Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Virginia Woolf in the movie, "The Hours" (2003). That same year, she was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a star engraved with her name. In 2004, she received a "Citizen of the World" acknowledgement from the United Nations.
In May of 2006 she officially announced her engagement to the New Zealand born country musician Keith Urban. The pair were married in the St. Patrick's church in Manly, Sydney.
