Panserbjørne

Panserbjørne are more commonly known as the armored bears. They live in Svalbard, in the north. The Panserbjørne are mercenaries, or paid fighters. They do not take sides in wars unless they are paid to fight for one side. You cannot trick an armored bear, unless the bear is acting like a human, as Lyra found out when she tricked Iofur Raknison into thinking she was Iorek's dæmon. Also, panserbjørne never break their word. Lee Scoresby says that this is especially true of Iorek Byrnison.

The singular version of the word panserbjørne is panserbjørn, which is used when speaking of one bear.
