A Radio drama is a play, or dramatisation of a book, that has been adapted for broadcast by radio. There is usually at least one narrator, who provides the descriptions and information necessary to link together the passages of dialogue spoken by the actors. Sound effects are often used to help the listener to imagine the scene or action being described. Such dramas can often be bought in audio CD, or similar, format.

A radio drama production of His Dark Materials with narration by Philip Pullman was made for BBC Radio 4 in 2003.
