Romans are citizens of Rome, the capital of Italy. Rome is located on the western coast of Italy, which is made of a peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea.

In Historical Context

The Roman Empire was vast and included Jerusalem, the city where Jesus was arrested and crucified. The chief priests of the Sanhedrin (The Great Sanhedrin is an assembly of Jewish judges who constituted the supreme court and legislative body of ancient Israel.) handed him over to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of the area, who presided over the trial that lead to his death.
