Called Muscovy in Lyra's World, after its old name of the "Grand Duchy of Muscovy" in our world. Its capital , Moscow , is named as such because of this.

Russia (full - Russian Federation), a country in Our World, is located in the northeast hemisphere. It is very large (6,592,800 square miles or 17,075,400 square kilometres), and therefore contains various climates, such as Arctic regions. It is also known for having permafrost, which is when the ground is frozen and melted annually.

Traditionally, it has been hard for Russia to stay in touch with the technologies and advances of central Europe, since the Mongol (Tartar) invasion and 200-year occupation in the early 2nd millennium, especially in the 1900's, but recently it has progressed, partially due to the technological advancements achieved whilst part of the USSR and under communist control. The first artificial satellite and the first man in space were both Russian.
