The Soviet Union or Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), was an socialist union of many east European countries, with Russia as the most influential , created in december 1922. The country was founded after the October Revolution in Russia 1917. After world war 2, the leader of the union at the time Iosif Vissarionovitch Dzhughachvili " Stalin " had occupied many countries from the Germans. These countries was then united into the union creating a protective belt around Russia. USSR and USA , the two greatest superpowers at the time, started what has been called the cold war. From the 40's until the 90's the two countries was constantly threatening each other, the world watched in terror as it time after time nearly got down to an all out nuclear war.
