Full Name: Thorold World: Lyra's World Dæmon: Anfang Species: Human Gender: Male

Lord Asriel's manservant. He has been in Asriel's service for many years. When Asriel was captured by the panserbjørne, Thorold followed him up to Svalbard to stay with him. When Asriel eventually left through his other world window, Thorold stayed in Asriel's prison house on Svalbard, to keep it clean and functioning, in case his master returned. And if he did not, he would stay there until his death. Since he has been in the lord's service for so many years, Thorold knows exactly what he is going to do next. He tells this to Serafina Pekkala in The Subtle Knife. It has not been mentioned what has happened to him after this meeting.

His reason of existing in the His Dark Material's books is simply to provide the reader a glimpse into the high style of living in which Lord Asriel engages. His dæmon is a pinscher called Anfang.
