Full Name: Tony Makarios
World: Lyra's World
Dæmon: Ratter
Species: Human
Gender: Male

A simple slum child from Limehouse who is abducted by the Gobblers in Northern Lights/Golden Compass. Tony was sitting on the steps of a church eating a hot pie when he was abducted by Mrs. Coulter who he thought was "angelic" and very kind and sweet, who even promised him that she would tell his mother where he was going... He is later able to tell Lyra what the Gobblers do to children, when Lyra finds him wandering the North in Norroway without a dæmon. He had been taken to Bolvangar, where he had had intercision performed on him. His dæmon, which was usually a sparrow, was named Ratter. Lyra took him back to where the gyptians were, but he died an hour before Lyra woke up and was later cremated.

According to the book, his mother thinks he's nine-years-old, but since she's drunk, he could either be eight or ten. His surname's Greek, but he looks more Chinese than Greek, and he's got some Lascar, Irish, and Skraeling from his mother's side.

In the Movie Adaption

In the movie adaption, Billy Costa and Tony Makarios are merged, therefore the character is named Billy Costa, the son of Ma Costa, but his dæmon is called Ratter. Lyra finds Billy Costa without his dæmon in a barn and brings him back to the Gyptians and his mother Ma Costa, shortly before they are attacked by the Samoyeds.
