The United States of America is located in the Northeast hemisphere of Our World. It is comprised of 50 states, such as Alaska and Texas, and multiple territories.

In Lyra's world, USA does not seem to exist, in its place is New Danemark , a colony of Danemark. This is highly likely to be a reference to the empire built up by Denmark before the middle ages. A clear example of another reference to the State of Denmark and the large amount of conquered land is the play Hamlet, in which the protagonist is the Prince of Denmark.

The New Dane Lee Scoresby, who came from the country of Texas, would have been from our world's United States.
