Usually associated with the glass structures in buildings. In HDM however, this term refers to the rents in the fabric of the Universes. They can form through natural means, though it is never explain exactly how this process occurrs. However, the usual means by which these rents are formed is by use of the Subtle knife. The bearer of the knife holds the blade horizontally in front of them, and using miniscule movements, feels for the spaces between the atoms in the air. Each space leads to a different and alternate universe, in which one fundamental choice has been made in a different way, and the bearer gradually learns to differentiate between the feel of each space, allowing them to choose the right space to cut and open the universe they wish. Once the space has been found, the bearer must carefully shimmy the blade further into the space, widening it and allowing them to cut the window to the size they wish.

Closing the window involves the bearer gently taking the two edges into his or her fingers and squeezing them together, sealing it up and separating the two universes once more.

Windows are dangerous to the universes in two ways. Dust leaks through the edges of the window, into the Abyss, and in turn a piece of the Abyss comes through to form the deadly, soul-eating spectres. The Windows are described as wounds in nature.

Xaphania vows to close every last window to restore the balance to the Universes.
