Xaphania

The wisest of the Angels, she was banished by the Authority thousands of years ago for finding out the truth about him, and participated (possibly even led) the first rebellion against him, by the angels. The rebel angels allied with Lord Asriel in his rebellion, including Balthamos and Baruch, serve her. Xaphania is one of Lord Asriel's most trusted advisors. It is Xaphania who tells Lyra and Will why they cannot be together, and learns from Will how to close windows.

Xaphania may be a parallel to Lucifer, who rebelled against God and was cast out of Heaven with a third of the Angels.
