A witch in "Lyra's Oxford". She had a son with Sebastian Makepeace, but the son, who was raised by Makepeace, died fighting for Lord Asriel in the Rebellion. Her clan, which her dæmon claims live in Lake Enara had fought against Lord Asriel, and her son's body was found with one of her arrows in him. Blaming Makepeace for raising their son to believe in Asriel's cause and Lyra for "causing" the war, Yelena sends her dæmon, Ragi, to lure Lyra to Makepeace's house in Jericho. She drugs Makepeace and plans to kill Lyra and frame him for her murder. But a swan kills her before she can kill Lyra.
